Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in the performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would have placed her, according to American standards, in the class of child prodigies. For a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended families, these qualities were natural. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin the capital of Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons was her mom. She was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer team in Ireland and ran an Dublin business. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a natural athlete and was a fan of tough athletic games. She combined this interest with an equally natural gift for performing. She was the recipient of nearly every Feis Awards for her home nation's theatre and drama was a testament to the fact that she was a natural performer. When she turned 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her passion for classical theatre as well as singing opera.
